Certification Process

Eligibility Requirements

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Possess a teaching certificate or be currently employed at a college or university
  • Three years of teaching experience
  • Be part of a certification program that has partnered with the NVTA

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this certification, you will be able to:

  1. Create a successful learning atmosphere within their home instructional space and use and troubleshoot the technology required for delivery of a quality virtual classroom lesson
  2. Prepare for instructing students online through communication with the student’s facilitator, building quality lesson plans for the virtual environment and setting the class pace.
  3. Apply their content knowledge into a virtual classroom through the use of a learning management system, use of a video delivery platform, using innovative presentation and teaching techniques, building a tiered classroom that incorporates grouping, how to implement dynamic questioning, and interactive instruction to keep students engaged.
  4. Build relationships with students, facilitators, and peers within the virtual classroom environment
  5. Apply best practices for grading, advanced planning, respectful use of social media, participating in team meetings, and appropriate dress when teaching in a remote environment.

  • Assignment: Send complete lesson plan with video to instructor
  • Assignment: Start Planning outline for Technology Implementation Plan

Week 11

  • Assignment: Complete the Technology Implementation Plan, a 20 Page paper

Week 12

  • Unit 7: Build E-Portfolio

  • Assignment: Add in completed course work: Theory Reflection Essay, Literature Review Presentation, Literature Response Video, Lesson Plan, Technology Implementation Plan, Lesson Demonstration

Scoring

We have a team of certified educators that will be available to score your videos and essays throughout the year as you complete your stages. Each educator has completed the NVTA Certification Program on their own and currently teaches in a virtual environment. They will be required to follow our NVTA Principles of Virtual Teaching that will be provided to you upon registration.

What if you don’t pass a section?

  • Each candidate will have up to two chances to retake a stage.
  • If you fail a stage a third time you will be required to pay an additional non-refundable fee of $199 to continue the process to pay for the evaluators’ time.
